We have a native component in Contentful for data visualisation called the Component - Graph. This is our most accessible tool for displaying data visualisation.
However, we also have the Datawrapper tool, which allows us to embed more complex data visualisations created in a paid for tool onto our website. The Datawrapper account is owned by the Research team and is used primarily to display their content on campaigning pages and Updates, Insights and Impact pages. It can be either linked into content via assemblies or embedded into copy blocks on these pages.
It is currently only enabled into a few content types including the Page - Content template and the Page - Update, Impact and Insights template, so if you need to use elsewhere, you may need to request to have it added in to the page or component you require.
To build the Datawrapper component
-
Create a new Block - Datawrapper entry.
-
Add a title for your graph.
-
Add the Datawrapper ID. This is a short line of text that appends the URL.
For example, if the datawrapper supplied by the stakeholder is: https://www.datawrapper.de/_/QFpmF/?v=29
The ID you would need to put into the Contentful field is: QFpmF -
Add a line of alt text that explains what the graph shows.
-
The spacing around the graph can display strangely in the front end - if you leave the minimum height in pixels box blank, this should minimise the white space around the graph.
-
Publish the block and you can then embed into content.
